Homemade Whipped Cream

Since giving up processed foods and all that sugar, my hubby and I still miss dessert!! Thankfully there are still plenty of options out there. I have found many other blogs with recipes for grain free cookies and cakes, but one of our favorite desserts in our house is sooooo simple: Homemade Whipped Cream!! Last night we decided to make a small batch to go with some fresh blueberries, strawberries and a few cut up bananas!! YUM!! This recipe is super simple to make and can be flavored in many ways, including Chocolate (which we made last night), Vanilla, Strawberry, etc. Here’s what we did:

Homemade Chocolate Whipped Cream

Tools:

Stand Mixer, or bowl and hand mixer

Serves: 4

Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract (or any other flavor you want)
  • 1 tbsp Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder
  • A small sprinkle of Truvia (optional)
  • Various Fruits and Berries of your choice

Chill your stand mixer bowl before making. This helps keep the cream cold with the friction of whipping it. Make sure to use your whisk attachment for you mixer. A hand mixer will also work, still chill the bowl you will be using.

Add cream, vanilla, truvia and cocoa powder to the bowl. Begin whisking on a low setting to mix all ingredients together. Slowing work the speed up to medium high. (On my mixer that is speed 8.) After you start mixing, keep an eye on your cream. Around the four minute mark the cream will start to stiffen. It should only take about 4-5 minutes to get the right texture. (Think of the texture of cool whip and you will know what you are looking for) When you stop mixing your whisk should be able to form a peek in the cream when you take it out. That’s it, you’re done!!

Place desired fruit in a small bowl and top with your homemade whipped cream!! ENJOY!!!

  1. Is it really usual for people to buy cream already whipped? Here in New Zealand you can actually buy whipped cream in a can but I don’t know anyone who does. I like the idea of whipping it with cocoa! Another idea to try is whipping it up with berries. I use frozen in the winter (which it is here at the moment).

  2. I just found your blog from your MDA story (congrats, btw!)

I love making my own whipped cream! And I usually just hand whip small batches, which gives me a little arm workout in the process :)

  3. Real whipped cream is pretty much the best thing ever! My fam always goes for the canned stuff (I guess it could be worse- they could be eating cool whip!) :(
